The development of low-temperature heat-treatable high-pressure die-cast Al–Mg–Fe–Mn alloys with Zn

Abstract In the present work, a novel low-temperature heat-treatable recycled die-cast Al–Mg alloy was developed by adding Zn into non-heat-treatable Al–5Mg–1.5Fe–0.5Mn alloy. The results showed that additions resulted in formation of equilibrium phase T-Mg 32 (Al, Zn) 49 under as-cast condition, which can be dissolved ?-Al matrix at relatively low solution temperature (430 °C) and thus set base for heat treatment. mechanical test indicated had smooth liner improvement strength all alloys T6-state with 1% 2% as its concentration increased but sharp on when from 2 to 3%. TEM analysis revealed precipitate Al–5Mg–1.5Fe–0.5Mn–3Zn is ?? phase, rather than widely reported T? or T? other Al–Mg–Zn approximately same Mg concentrations. After optimized T6 treatment (solution 430 °C 60 min ageing 120 16 h), exhibits yield 321 MPa, ultimate tensile 445 MPa elongation 6.2%.
